What the heck just happened there? Seriously, was anything accomplished? Other than tickling me to the point ofconsiderable laughter, I'm not entirely sure Ben really got anywhere. I'm sure there's going to be at least one court case in response to the whole "cross-bludgeoning" episode, but that's about it. In no way do I refute the movie's infinite entertainment value. I laughed myself silly, and that's always a good thing right? But maybe the fact that Ben accomplishes nothing is kind of the point. In fact, I'm sure it is, and that just makes it all the better. Ben is held back by his expectations, stopped dead in his tracks in face of the prospect that now, just after graduating, his lifeis over. He has entered the world of "plastics" and fake parties and white collar staleness , and though he tries and tries to make his own life different, it really is just the same in the end. And truly, that's a little disturbing. As a whole, entertaining, yes. But after looking back on it after a few weeks, it makes me stand back, look at it, and say "hey, what if that was me?". Though I'm sureI wouldnt have handled it quite as terribly, I'm sure it still wouldn't have gone very well.
